Mortalists emphasize that Mary had an identical body to Jesus, which was mortal and which was subject to pain and suffering. Thus, before the ascension, it had to die. Mortalists and Immortalists can only be reconciled by the widely accepted fact that Mary fell asleep before she was ascended.
