Do God Will she forgive Sister Bernadette? Sister Bernadette's case was publicized around 2006 when some shocking information concerning the centre where she was a director started to come to light.
The case came to light on the occasion investigations in the murder of an 8-year-old Matthew z Rybnik.
During investigations Two men have confessed to the murder - 22-year-old Łukasz and his 25-year-old cousin, Tomasz. Both were pupils of the centre where Sister Bernadetta worked. Tomasz's co-prisoner, sent a letter in which he explained that the boy had confessed to him that he had abused others children and the atrocities that took place at the facility.
The officers decided to investigate and went to the centre. What they found there raised their doubts. In 2007, the Regional Prosecutor in Gliwice initiated a case against Sister Bernadetta (actually Agnieszka F.) and one of the form teachers, Sister Franciszka (actually Bogumila Ł).
Investigation of Sister Bernadette
During investigations and interrogations of children, further pathologies that took place in the centre come to light. The sisters allowed harassment children by the older residents of the center. They punished children for the slightest offence with inadequate penalties. Children were beaten and humiliated. They were woken up at 5.30 a.m., and after 6 p.m. they were forbidden to drink anything... They did not try to provide the children with normal living conditions, they did not try to find foster families or better the future.
Sister Bernadette was eventually sentenced to 2 years probation in 2010, Sister Francisca and an eight-month suspended sentence. Judgment for Sister Bernadette was changed in 2011 to 2 years of absolute imprisonment, but she never appeared to serve her sentence, citing old age and ill health state health.
