Prayer to St. Rita

O glorious St. Rita, your supplications before God's crucifix have been known to grant graces that many would call impossible. St. Rita, so humble, so pure, so devoted in love to the One you crucified Jesus, speak on my behalf for my request, which from my humble position seems impossible. (Here mention your request).

Rita, O glorious Rita, to my request, show your power with God on behalf of the supplicant. Be generous to me, as you have been in so many wonderful cases for the greater glory of God. I promise, dear Rita, that if my request is granted, I will praise you, by the display of your grace, bless you, and sing your praises forever. Relying then on your merits and power before the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Prayer to St. Rita of Cascia - Novena

O Holy Patroness of the needy, St. Rita, whose supplications before your Lord God are almost irresistible, who for your generosity in granting favors has been called the intercessor of the hopeless and even the impossible;

St. Rita so humble, so pure, so mortified, so patient, and of such compassionate love for Jesus crucified, that you were able to receive from Him all that you ask, on account of which all have recourse to you with confidence, expecting, if not always relief, at least consolation; Be gracious to our request, showing your power with God on behalf of Him who supports you; be generous for us, as you have been in so many wonderful instances, or for the greater glory of God, for the spread of your own piety, and for the comfort of those who trust in you.

We promise that if our request is granted, we will praise you by showing your grace, bless you and sing your praises forever. Rely on your merits and power before the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

We pray: (mention your request)

Get our request for us, taking into account the special merits of your childhood,

By your perfect union with the Divine Will,

Through heroic suffering during your married life,

By the comfort you experienced at the conversion of your husband,

Through the sacrifice of your children, instead of watching them painfully offend God,

By your miraculous entrance into the monastery,

By your severe penances and three times a day bloody scourges,

Through the suffering caused by the wound, you received from the thorns a crucified Savior,

By the divine love that has consumed your heart,

By that extraordinary devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, on which you yourself existed for four years,

By the happiness with which you parted from your trials to join your Divine Bridegroom,

A perfect example is that you give to people from every state of life.

Pray for us, O Saint Rita, that we may be worthy of the promises Christ.

(Say the novena each day for nine days. After your prayer is answered, please share your story with others).

Oratorio Prayer to St. Rita

O magnificent St. Rita, miracle-worker, from thy shrine in Cascia, where in all thy beauty thou liest in peace, where thy relics exhale the breaths of paradise, turn thy merciful eyes upon me who suffer and weep! You see my poor bleeding heart surrounded by thorns You see, O dear Holy One, that my eyes have no more tears to shed, I have wept so much! Tired and discouraged as I am, I feel the same prayers dying on my lips. Do I have to despair like this in this crisis of my life? Oh come, Saint Rita, come to my aid and help me. Do you not call the Holy Impossible, Advocate of those who are in despair? Then honor your name, doing me the favor from God that I ask. Everyone praises your glory, everyone talks about the most wonderful miracles performed by you, am I the only one who is supposed to be disappointed because you didn't hear me? Ah, no! So pray for me to your sweet of the Lord Jesus, that he may pity me for my troubles and that through you, O Good Rita, I may obtain what my heart so ardently desires.

(Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory to the Father, three times).

Those who wish to offer the novena should repeat this prayer for nine days.

Prayer to St. Rita for a special need

O mighty Saint Rita, rightly called the Holy Impossible One, I come to you with faith in my great need. You know well my trials, for you yourself have been burdened many times in this life. Come to my aid, speak for me, pray with me, intercede for me before the Father. I know that God Has a very generous heart and that He is a very loving Father. Join in my prayers and obtain for me the grace I desire (here I will mention your request). You who have pleased God so much on earth and are now so much in heaven, I promise to use this grace, when granted, to improve my life, to proclaim God's mercy, and to make you more widely known and loved. Amen.

Rita of Cascia

Rita of Cascia (born Margherita Lotti 1381 - 22 May 1457) was an Italian widow and Augustinian nun venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.

After the death of her husband, Rita joined a community of Augustinian nuns, where she was known both for her practice of mortification of the flesh and the effectiveness of her prayers. Various miracles have been attributed to her intercession, and her forehead often shows a bleeding wound, which is understood to be a partial stigmata.

Pope Leo XIII canonized Rita on May 24, 1900. Her feast day is celebrated on May 22. During the canonization ceremony, she was given the title Patroness of Impossible Causes, while in many Catholic countries Rita became known as the patron saint of abused wives and women with broken hearts. Her corrupted body remains in the Basilica of Santa Rita da Cascia.
