Candles are a symbol of Jesus Christ and that he is the light of the world. Although in the past they were used to illuminate the darkness - today there is no need for this. Very often, however, during the holidays, the priest encourages the faithful to bring candles with them. They should be consecrated. So how to consecrate candles?

How to consecrate the candles?

Candles in the church have a name, but also a function. Baptismal candle, Thunderbolt, Paschal. Although all of them are the result of the work of bees, their purpose is quite different.

In the Catholic Church, the ordination of a candle occurs every year on February 2. This is the feast of Our Lady of Thunder - or the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It is on this day that candles should be brought with them for consecration.

In the past, storms brought havoc and fires - after all, there were no lightning rods, and a consecrated candle on the feast of Our Lady of Thunder was supposed to protect the household from the destructive element, as well as from wolves, which after winter dangerously approached people looking for food.
