Dealing with difficult subjects on the borderline of faith, everyday life, temptations and unexplainable phenomena, is quite difficult by nature. One can very easily come across over-interpretations, mistaken impressions, erroneous means leading to unclear ends, and all sorts of difficulties - spiritual and material. Among these issues are signs of possession by Satan, which are very often confused with... mental illness.

However, there is a large group of features common for possessed people, which are repeated many times. The more of them that are observed simultaneously, the greater the certainty that the intervention of a specialized exorcist priest will be necessary, which is not at all easy to come by. Here are some of them:

  • notorious blasphemy against God, uttered in rage, without restraint,
  • nervous reactions around objects such as Bible, cross, Host, medal, holy water,
  • aggression towards the clergy - uncontrollable, sudden, insane,
  • Notorious mockery of those praying, including disrespect for the activity of prayer, interruptions, nervous reactions,
  • speaking in a voice not your own, in unfamiliar languages,
  • unexplainable phenomena, such as levitations.

The symptoms of spirit possession are not always so strong from the very beginning, sometimes they do not manifest at all. Many times it takes a very specific situation to bring out from the possessed person the set of classical reactions described above.

Prayer for the possessed

Importantly, every Catholic can help in this matter with their prayers. Thanks to it, support is given to clergymen, toiling to help the possessed. Whether exorcisms exist is beyond doubt, but their power lies in the faith of not only the individual, but also the entire community of the Church.

Under no circumstances, however, should one be tempted to intervene more than what is permitted and recommended. Reaching for the contents of reserved exorcisms without proper preparation is out of place even in the case of an "ordinary" priest, let alone a lay person. You can pray for strength, faith and support for exorcists, but under no circumstances should you take matters into your own hands.

Possession by the devil, symptoms

Sometimes you need help from the outside, but it is also not uncommon for those possessed with a remnant of free will to ask for help themselves. Sometimes it is difficult for them themselves to determine whether their condition is caused by a mental illness, some more difficult time in their lives and a strange reaction of the body, or perhaps possession by Satan. It's a pretty slippery slope in self-esteem, so it's worth turning to a specialist.

Moreover, a kind of guidance may be the possible reasons at this point. Visiting places of worship, indulging in deep spiritual experiences connected with non-Christian ideology, occultism, shady company - all this may be, in a way, the gate of evil to the soul of the individual. Possession by Satan - symptoms and causes - these are issues that go hand in hand and it is usually possible to link several historical events that lead to the current condition.
