Is Christ the name of Jesus?

Do Christ surname Jesus? This issue was somewhat addressed in a previous thread on the origin and meaning of the name of Jesus. Jesus Christ is, as we already know, a two-part name in which the first part, Jesus, is the name.

The second element, Christ, is not so much a name as an honorific title that is meant to indicate His very prominent role. Unofficially, this segment becomes, as it were, Jesus' second name in the New Testament. Christ comes from the Greek word Hristos and means as much as the anointed one, the anointed one, or Messiah.
