One of the seven deadly sins is impurity, which can manifest itself in many forms. To best understand the sin of impurity against oneself, it is important to examine what it is and how it affects us spiritually. Let's dive into what exactly the sin of impurity looks like and how we can try to avoid it

What does impurity look like?

Impurity is any action or thought that serves to distance us from God, who calls us to live in holiness. Church Catholic defines impurity in three ways: spiritual, moral and physical. We will discuss each of these separately

Spiritual impurity

Spiritual impurity is when we deviate from our faith by engaging in activities that do not bring glory to God or set an example for others around us. This can be anything from lying about our faith to participating in activities that contradict our beliefs, such as attending a strip club or taking part in gossiping about others. All of these things are examples of spiritual impurity and should be avoided at all costs if we want to live a holy life according to God's plan for us

Moral impurity

We deal with moral impurity when our thoughts or actions go against the natural law established by God Himself, such as adultery, theft, murder, etc. In addition, moral impurity can also include lesser acts, such as having lustful thoughts toward someone else or speaking ill of another person without justification or provocation.

Physical impurity

Physical impurity mainly refers to sexual immorality, such as premarital sex or masturbation, which is contrary to God's will for us as humans created in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:27). Physical immorality can also refer to other acts, such as gluttony or drunkenness, which are also seen as vices according to Christian teachings (Ephesians 5:18).

The sin of impurity manifests itself in a variety of ways, ranging from the spiritual, moral and physical levels, but they all have one common denominator - they distance us from living a life that brings glory and honor to God's name! By avoiding actions and thoughts that contradict His word and accepting His grace instead, we can strive to live a pure life worthy of His love!
