The godmother is any person, chosen by the child's parents, who is at least 16 years old, has received all the sacraments and leads a religious life.

According to the Catholic Church, the task of godparents is to accompany their spiritual children for the rest of their lives, especially during the most important moments. This is to help Parents to include on the statute of adolescence child into the mystery of the faith, and in adulthood to ensure that the child persists in this faith, leads a Christian life, makes choices in accordance with God's commandments and fulfills the duties associated with this sacrament.

Can a child have two godmothers?

According to the Code of Canon Law, one must choose "one godparent or godmother only, or two godparents". (Canon 873 of the Code of Canon Law). However, this means that a godmother, godfather or both i.e. mother and father can be chosen for baptism. The Code does not provide for choosing two godmothers or two godfathers, and this provision must be observed.
